Day 52: Modesto, CA

Today we had the privilege of staying with Mennonite Your Way hosts, Phil and Pam Franklin at their home in Modesto, CA. We very much appreciated their hospitality. They really made us feel at home, and we already feel like we've known them for years. In the evening, we attended an outdoor Franklin Graham tour. He spoke of the problem of divisiveness in America, and reminded us that the Bible commands "every person to be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God" (Romans 13:1). In the past, I've always been impressed by America's willingness to unite behind their leaders. This has been a great source of strength. It's sad to see the current division and increasing polarization. Rev. Graham, although a Republican, took time to specifically pray for the governor of California and several other Democratic leaders and encouraged us to do the same.
