We spent the day in Rockport, TX, which was at ground zero of Hurricane Harvey last summer. The town was devastated and is still recovering. Everyone we talked to has a horrible hurricane story. The young checkout lady at Walmart lost her trailer home and most of her belongings. The trailer park we're staying at lost enormous, old live oak trees, which were blown over in one direction and then blown 180 degrees in the opposite direction when the other side of the hurricane's eye passed. A guy we met at the beach described how he weathered the storm and at one point saw three simultaneous tornadoes that the hurricane had spawned. Scary stuff. We're happy that we'll be leaving before the next hurricane season. We were also happy to meet Jan, our camp's activities director, who promised to read my book and to add it to the camp library. She invited me to come give a talk on the book next winter.
